Thanks for the head start, Vicki.  If you guys can believe it, the exhibition season opens today in Scottsdale, Ariz.  Hopefully, it'll be a good season for us all, but remember to be mindful and respectful of everyone else.

In what may be the winner of "overreaction award of 2018," after Anthony Rendon struck out at the bottom of the third inning in the Nationals game against the Mets, he just gave his bat a small toss and calmly walked away. In response, home plate umpire Marty Foster ejected Rendon.

This makes the first time he's been given the heave-ho in 640 games and the fact it was for absolutely nothing is driving folks crazy. Rendon was thrown and manager Davey Martinez charged out to scream at Foster, getting himself ejected as well.

Maybe getting rid of any player worth anything wasn't such a great idea, after all. On Wednesday, the Marlins were outdrawn by their Double-A affiliate in Jacksonville. For a home game against the Mets, they drew a whopping 6,150 fans.

We have the first Code No-No of the season.  The Athletics' Sean Manaea, with 10 strikeouts, has not allowed a hit through eight innings against the Red Sox.  Updates to come.

UPDATE:  The first Code No-No was successful.  Manaea, with 10 strikeouts, threw a no-hitter against the Red Sox in a 3-0 Athletics win.

Ichiro is moving into Seattle's front office for the rest of the season rather than playing. He says he's not retiring, but I have a feeling it'll wind up like Don Mattingly taking a year off because of his bad back, and then never coming back. Though, really, Mattingly was a much better player at that point than Ichiro is now.

History has been made again.  The Angels’ Albert Pujols recorded his 3,000th hit on a single in the fifth inning on the road against the Mariners.  He is the 32nd player to reach the mark.  Updates to come.

And the Angels beat the Mariners, 5-0.

Code No-No was activated south of the border.  Four Dodgers pitchers combined to throw a no-hitter in a 4-0 win against the Padres in Monterrey, Mexico.

James Paxton no-hit the Blue Jays, the first thrown by a Canadian, as the Mariners won 5-0.

James Paxton no-hit the Blue Jays, the first thrown by a Canadian, as the Mariners won 5-0.
And remember that Paxton threw his no-hitter in Toronto, so unless I’m mistaken, this the first time in MLB history that two no-hitters were thrown outside of the United States in the same season after the Dodgers’ combined no-hitter on Friday in Monterrey, Mexico.

A quick edit, Voodoo, Paxton is actually the second Canadian to throw an MLB no-hitter.  You can be forgiven for forgetting the first, though.  That was accomplished by Dick Fowler for the Philadelphia Athletics against the St. Louis Browns on Sept. 9, 1945.

Well, as if the injury wasn't bad news enough.  According to multiple reports, Mariners All-Star Robinson Canó was suspended 80 games for violating MLB's drug policy.  Updates to come.

And the Mariners beat the Rangers, 9-8, in 11 innings.  (What a thriller tonight in Seattle!)
