It's the end of an era in Tallahassee.  According to Mark Schlabach, head coach Jimbo Fisher is leaving Florida State to take the same job at Texas A&M.

I'm sure a playoff berth will have made the wait well worth it.  No. 6 Georgia upset No. 2 Auburn, 28-7, to capture their first SEC championship since 2005.

Look, if you had one shot, one opportunity to seize everything you ever wanted, would you capture or let it slip?  No. 1 Clemson and No. 7 Miami (Fla.) are vying for the ACC Championship in a final chance to impress the College Football Playoff committee.  Updates to come.

And Clemson beat Miami (Fla.), 38-3.

Looks like Alabama will back into the College Football Playoff, but I'm not happy about how they got in.  No. 8 Ohio State upset No. 4 Wisconsin, 27-21, to win the Big Ten title.  The Buckeyes' J. T. Barrett had three total touchdowns.

I'm sure they will, but it will totally be because "they're Alabama" more than them actually deserving it. They beat Florida State, who turned out to suck, then they beat LSU and Mississippi State (neither of whom were really that good either). The only other halfway top 25 team they played all year (at least when they played since Fresno State snuck in late), Auburn, smoked them pretty good. Take their name off the top, and I don't think anyone is talking up that resume.
Welcome to my breakdown.
I hope I didn't scare you.
That's just the way we are when we come down.

Who would you put in instead.  A team that just lost their conference title game?  A team that lost by 31 to an unranked opponent?  A mid-major?
However do you want me?
However do you need me?

We're about to find out.  Who's in?  The College Football Playoff matchups are being announced during the selection show.  Updates to come.

UPDATE:  I feel better about this now.  Clemson, Oklahoma, Georgia and Alabama topped the final College Football Playoff standings.  Ohio State finished fifth.  The Tigers will face the Crimson Tide on Jan. 1, 2018 in New Orleans.  The Sooners will face the Bulldogs on Jan. 1, 2018 in Pasadena, Calif.

Well, that was fast.  Willie Taggart confirmed to ESPN that he will become the head coach at Florida State after one year with the same job at Oregon.

In less than five years they'll be looking for a new coach. All indications have Taggert being a terrific recruiter, but terrible coach. Florida State doesn't need an ace recruiter, you roll out of bed and find 4 and 5 star recruits down there. They need someone who can turn that high class talent into big time players, and win games. Taggert just doesn't have a real track record of being that kind of guy. Funny enough, he probably fits much better at Oregon, where his recruiting zeal plays much better, especially if he can get some top notch coordinators to cover some of his game day shortcomings. But he's from Florida and FSU is his dream job, so I get why he had to go for it. He's just going to wind up getting knocked back down the coaching ladder in a few years.

This may be unpopular, but instead of Taggart, I probably would've gone with Kevin Sumlin, who has a history of winning big games at a Power 5 school.

This should make the Third Saturday in October a little more intriguing.  According to Chris Low, Tennessee is expected to name Alabama defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt as its head football coach today.

It’s time to crown the best.  Who will win the Heisman?  College football’s most prestigious trophy is going to be awarded in New York.  Updates to come.

UPDATE:  He started as a walk-on and he'll go out as the best player in the country.  Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield won the Heisman Trophy.  He had 4,650 total yards and 46 touchdowns this season.

Tonight only, I’m all about fighting on.  No. 5 Ohio State and J. T. Barrett are taking on No. 8 USC and Sam Darnold in the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic.  Updates to come.

And Ohio State beat USC, 24-7.

Is the Big Ten going to continue to roll?  Saquon Barkley and No. 9 Penn State are battling No. 11 Washington in the PlayStation Fiesta Bowl.  Updates to come.

And Penn State beat Washington, 35-28.

Will the chain be coming through or will the Big Ten continue its dominance?  No. 10 Miami (Fla.) is looking to break out the turnover chain against No. 6 Wisconsin in the Capital One Orange Bowl.  Updates to come.

And Wisconsin beat Miami (Fla.), 34-24.
