TV and Movie News: Another Origin Story
« on: January 22, 2017, 03:54:10 am »
With Friday's numbers, Sing has supplanted My Big Fat Greek Wedding as the highest grossing movie (domestically) to never reach #1 at the box office.
She's a good girl, loves her mama
Loves Jesus and America too
She's a good girl, crazy 'bout Elvis
Loves horses and her boyfriend too

It's a long day livin' in Reseda
There's a freeway runnin' through the yard
And I'm a bad boy, 'cause I don't even miss her
I'm a bad boy for breakin' her heart

Good for "Sing".  It looks like a fine movie and a lot of fun.  You don't need to win the box office to make a killing, much like "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" proved.  What's still impressive is that "Sing" has some power left in it, finishing fourth with $9 million ($249.3 million overall).

This movie can add another to the long list of identities its antagonist has:  Box office champ.  "Split" came in at first this weekend with an impressive $40.2 million debut.  "XXX: Return of Xander Cage" opened at second with $20 million.  "Hidden Figures" dropped two spots to third with $16.3 million ($84.2 million overall).

There you go making my heart beat again
Heart beat again, heart beat again
There you go making me feel like a kid
Won't you do it and do it one time
There you go pulling me right back in
Right back in, right back in
And I know I'm never letting this go
I'm stuck on you
Whoa-oh, whoa-oh

I'm sort of curious if a certain event that took place yesterday affected the box office totals at all.

I think you're allowed to mention it was raining, that might make more people decide to have entertainment inside...  ;D

Oh, I wasn't referring to Friday's event, but Saturday's. Didn't look like rain affected that at all.

I feel like someone should have seen this coming, but the Flash musical is going to be a Glee reunion for more reasons than just Grant Gustin and Melissa Benoist. They must not have been able to get NPH, so Darren Criss was cast as The Music Meister.

Imma call shenanigans on this. Cara Delevingne seems like she should have been a shoo-in for this based on "Suicide Squad". But what exactly was so heinous about "Mother's Day" that they needed to give that spot to Kate Hudson?

Well, she's a big name in a shitty movie, which is pretty much the entire MO of the Razzies.

Yeah, but they tend to go after the bigger targets (sometimes even the easier ones) when applicable. It seems Suicide Squad, for all its nominations, still managed to get an undue pass in some areas.

As usual, not a damn thing I went to see, or would even want to watch. Only ones I will own on DVD, are Moana and Doctor Strange. Oscars continue to nominate movies that deserve the Razzies too.

So far the big shock of the snubs is Adams as she'd been nominated in other places and her performance central to "Arrival" so most thought she would finally get in. Then again, it looks to be either Stone or Portman so probably better for Adams to avoid a 6th loss.

I haven't seen any of the major nominees, but at least they kept their word on reworking the system to diversify.
