2016-17 NBA news and notes
« on: October 01, 2016, 07:45:39 pm »
Surprised I almost missed this, but the preseason tipped off tonight in Vancouver, British Columbia, so let's start talking hoops.  You got news or notes?  Post them here.  And remember to be respectful.

Baby I've had the same dream
Where I wake up
Wondering what it really means
If the world came running down
If it was
You and me against the world
Baby they cut us under but we'll take whatever we want
If it was
You and me against the world

Already, the Rookie of the Year Award is anybody's guess.  A source told Jeff Goodman that 76ers rookie small forward Ben Simmons is expected to miss three months following surgery on his right foot.

He may have been cleared in a court of law, but the court of public opinion probably won't forget.  The Knicks' Derrick Rose and two of his friends were cleared of all charges in a sexual assault civil trial.  Updates to come.

And the Knicks beat the Celtics, 121-96.

I hope you're ready to go because the NBA season begins tonight.  Here's the Opening Night schedule.

New York Knicks at Cleveland Cavaliers tonight at 7:30 p.m.
Utah Jazz at Portland Trail Blazers at 10 p.m.
San Antonio Spurs at Golden State Warriors tonight at 10:30 p.m.

I already feel sorry for New Olreans, because they're going to surround Anthony Davis with boiled garbage until they have to deal him so they can get something in return before he flees in free agency. He's put up 50 points, 15 rebounds, 5 assists, 7 steals, and 4 blocks, with about thirty seconds left in what could very well be a losing effort at home in their opener. You know what they say, those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it, and apparently they learned nothing from Chris Paul.

So make a move and plead the fifth cause ya can't plead the first

So now I'm rollin down Rodeo wit a shotgun
These people ain't seen a brown skin man
Since their grandparents bought one

It was actually 16 rebounds, but your point is valid.  If the star player posts those numbers and they can't beat the freaking Nuggets, then the Pelicans have no hope.  I'm with you, Joe.  I can see Anthony Davis bolting for greener pastures the second he becomes a free agent unless the management turns its shit around overnight and if he doesn't, the Pelicans will get shit for trading him away.

Did you happen to see the part where I said those were his stats with about thirty seconds left? Because I'm pretty sure I couldn't be reasonably expected to see into the future and know what his exact stat line at the end of the game would be. ::)

Uh, I missed it.  I'm sorry.  I'm terrible at reading the posts the whole way through.  I don't like blaming things on my ADHD, but I think this mishap is because of my condition.

I can already see the NBA's nets on fire and we're not even a week into the season.  The Thunder's Russell Westbrook scored 51 points as part of a triple-double in a 113-110 overtime win against the Suns.  He also had 13 rebounds and 10 assists.

He has seen one record end recently, but he just set a new one.  The Warriors' Stephen Curry made an NBA-record 13 three-pointers during a 46-point performance in a 116-106 win against the Pelicans.

Watch out, Stripes!  Enraged Clippers head coach and president of basketball operations Doc Rivers got ejected after charging at a referee and had to be held back by his team in a 127-122 double overtime loss to the Nets.

Some bets are ones not even kings should make.  The Cavaliers' LeBron James was teased as he entered the arena in a Chicago Cubs uniform to settle a World Series bet with the Bulls' Dwyane Wade.  Updates to come.

And the Bulls beat the Cavaliers, 111-105.

This is absolutely insane.  The Warriors' Klay Thompson erupted for 60 points through three quarters against the Pacers to set a new career high.  Updates to come.

And the Warriors beat the Pacers, 142-106.

Crisis averted.  The NBA and NBPA reached a tentative agreement on a new CBA before Thursday's deadline to opt out of the current deal.
