I know it's just loosely tied to baseball, but there is a connection.  Muhammad Ali's funeral will be on Friday in Louisville, Ky., with Bill Clinton, Diamondbacks minority owner Billy Crystal and Bryant Gumbel as eulogists.  Updates to come.

And the Diamondbacks lost to the Cubs, 5-3.

We might be watching some history right now.  The Rangers' Colby Lewis has a no-hitter through eight innings against the Athletics.  He has four strikeouts, one walk and 94 pitches.  Updates to come.

UPDATE:  So damn close!  The Athletics' Max Muncy broke up Lewis' no-hitter with a leadoff double in the ninth inning.

And the Rangers beat the Athletics, 5-1.

Given the season he's had, I'm not sure if I should say that the LOLMets are at it again.  The Mets' Matt Harvey's agent told Adam Rubin that Harvey will have season-ending surgery to address his thoracic outlet syndrome.  Updates to come.

And the Mets lost to the Nationals, 3-1.

Is (possibly) the greatest postseason pitcher going to add some regular season recognition?  The Giants' Madison Bumgarner has a no-hitter through seven innings against the Diamondbacks with 13 strikeouts.  Will he finish the job?  Updates to come.

And the Giants beat the Diamondbacks, 4-0.

He's got that boom boom pow!  No. 5 Marlins right fielder Giancarlo Stanton upset No. 2 White Sox third baseman Todd Frazier to win the 2016 MLB Home Run Derby with a record-setting 61-home run performance.

The junior circuit does it again!  The American League All-Stars won the MLB All-Star Game, 4-2, over the National League All-Stars.  The AL's Eric Hosmer and Salvador PĂ©rez each hit a home run in the second.

Time to honor the best of the best.  John Cena will host the 2016 ESPYS.  Who will win the big awards?  Updates to come.

UPDATE:  What a powerful statement to make.  NBA stars opened the ESPYS with a plea for violence in America to stop.  Free agent shooting guard Dwyane Wade said, "Enough is enough."

UPDATE 2:  He is one of the best broadcasters across all sports, baseball included, in addition to being a real hero.  TNT's Craig Sager received the Jimmy V Perseverance Award at the ESPYS.  He said, "One day soon we'll wipe out cancer."

I knew he had great pitches, but I didn't know he had a cutter.  The White Sox suspended Chris Sale five days for insubordination and destroying team equipment in a clubhouse incident.  Updates to come.

The White Sox beat the Tigers, 4-3, in a continuation of Saturday's game.  (What a thriller in Chicago!)
The White Sox beat the Tigers, 5-4, in today's regularly-scheduled game.  (What a thriller today in Chicago!)

Looks like the North Siders are serious about ending the drought and the Skanks are throwing in the towel.  According to Jayson Stark, the Cubs acquired four-time All-Star Aroldis Chapman from the Yankees in a five-player deal.  Chapman has 20 saves and a 2.01 ERA.  Updates to come.

The Cubs lost to the White Sox, 5-4.  (What a thriller tonight in Chicago!)
The Yankees beat the Astros, 2-1.

So much for the storybook ending to the season.  The Rockies' Trevor Story is going to have surgery on an injured thumb and expects to miss the rest of the season.  He leads the NL with 27 home runs.  Updates to come.

And the Rockies beat the Dodgers, 7-3.

I know a lot of people don't like him, but Hall of Fame or not, he's been a great player to watch from afar.  According to Buster Olney, the Yankees' Mark Teixeira is expected to announce his retirement today, effective at the end of the season.  This comes as the Yankees lost yesterday to the Mets, 4-1.

Hall of Fame or not

Gut reaction is no. He was very good, but even as I look at his resume, he's not a Hall of Famer. Sputtering down the stretch of his career leaves him as a career .269 hitter with 404 HRs (nothing particularly special for a first baseman, especially one that had his career overlap at least somewhat with the steroid era). He also only made three All Star games, so he doesn't really meet the "best player at his position for an extended period of time" argument either. Wearing pinstripes might get him a few more votes, but I just don't see it happening.
Welcome to my breakdown.
I hope I didn't scare you.
That's just the way we are when we come down.
We sweat and laugh and scream here.
'Cause life is just a dream here.
You know inside you feel right at home, here.
Yeah, Welcome to my nightmare yeah, hey, hey, hey...

I think we know what's coming.  The Yankees are going to hold a press conference with Alex Rodriguez, general manager and senior vice president Brian Cashman and manager Joe Girardi.  What will they say?  Updates to come.  This comes as the Yankees lost yesterday to the Indians, 5-2.

UPDATE:  It's a career ending sooner than we expected and I think we can lament how good it would've been if he wasn't such an asshole.  Rodriguez is going to play his final game for the Yankees on Friday against the Rays in New York.  He will be released and serve as a special advisor and trainer for the team.  Rodriguez held back tears as he talked about his playing career, saying, "I love this game and I love this team."

It finally happened!  The Marlins' Ichiro Suzuki became the 30th player to record 3,000 MLB hits with a seventh inning triple against the Rockies.  Updates to come.

And the Marlins beat the Rockies, 10-7.
