2016 MLB News and Notes

Batter up!  The exhibition season starts off today in Clearwater, Fla.  If you got news or some observations, this is your place to go.  Keep it clean and civil, although we have had some good behavior of late, so keep it up.
Know y'all been patiently waiting
I know you need me, I can feel it
I'm a beast, I'm an animal
I'm that monster in the mirror
The headliner, finisher
I'm the closer, winner
Best when under pressure
With seconds left I show up
If you really want more, scream it out louder

This isn't news some people want to hear this early.  According to ESPN and The New York Times, Yankees relief pitcher Aroldis Chapman was suspended 30 games under the MLB's new domestic violence policy.

Is it November 2017 yet?  The Yankees' Alex Rodriguez told ESPN's Andrew Marchand that he will retire after the 2017 season when his contract expires.  Updates to come.

And the Yankees lost to the Nationals, 13-0.

Popular 'Hall of Fame' sportscaster and former catcher Joe Garagiola dead at age 90.  In GoT terms ' His like shall never be seen again.' One of the greats gone. R.I.P. Joe.

I honestly can't think of a better way to start the MLB season than with two great divisional rivalries and a World Series rematch.  Here's the Opening Day schedule.

St. Louis Cardinals at Pittsburgh Pirates today at 1 p.m.
Chicago Cubs at Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim today at 3:05 p.m. in Spring Training
Toronto Blue Jays at Tampa Bay Rays today at 4 p.m.
New York Mets at Kansas City Royals tonight at 8:30 p.m.

I don't believe in curses, but if there is one, it will continue.  The Cubs' Kyle Schwarber will miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL and LCL following a collision with Dexter Fowler.  Updates to come.

And the Cubs lost to the Diamondbacks, 3-2.  (What a thriller tonight in Phoenix!)

The Cubs are pathetic and EVIL and should be lowered feet.first into a chipper shredder. So they deserve bad things to happen to them.

Are we going to see our first brush with greatness?  The Cubs' Jake Arrieta has a no-hitter through eight innings against the Reds.  He has six strikeouts, three walks and 103 pitches.  Updates to come.

UPDATE:  Oops, he did it again.  Arrieta threw a no-hitter for the second straight season.  He had six strikeouts in the Cubs' 16-0 win over the Reds.

What a fucking idiot!  Marlins All-Star Dee Gordon was suspended 80 games after a positive PED test.  He won the NL batting title last season.  This comes as the Marlins beat the Dodgers, 5-3.

Go to a TV now if you can because we are seeing the ultimate team effort.  The Marlins' Adam Conley and José Ureña have combined to not allow a hit through eight innings against the Brewers.  Updates to come.

UPDATE:  If Dee Gordon hadn't been suspended, these two might be going down in history.  The Brewers' Jonathan Lucroy broke up Conley and Ureña's combined no-hitter with one out in the ninth inning.

And the Marlins beat the Brewers, 6-3.

Did I really need to see this happen again to my favorite team AND have it done by a man who won a Cy Young here?  The Nationals' Max Scherzer tied an MLB record with 20 strikeouts in a nine-inning game in a 3-2 victory over the Tigers.

Honestly, I'd be okay if this guy was banned for good.  The MLB suspended the Rockies' José Reyes until the May 31 game against the Reds in Denver, a total of 51 games, for violating the domestic violence policy.  Updates to come.

And the Rockies beat the Mets, 5-2.

So that's what a Falcon Punch is worth.  According to reports, the Rangers' Rougned Odor will be suspended eight games for his role in a brawl with José Bautista and the Blue Jays.  Updates to come.

The Blue Jays lost to the Rays, 12-2.
The Rangers lost to the Athletics, 8-5.  (What a thriller tonight in Oakland!)

Hitting a Cub should be cheered and stomping the hell out of a Yankee should get you a reward!
